
“Black love is Black wealth,” wrote Nikki Giovanni, in her famed autobiographical poem “Nikki-Rosa.” Nikki Giovanni was a poet of her people, one whose love and understanding of the culture reverberate in the works she penned over the six decades of her prolific career. In this class, we will examine some of Giovanni’s iconic early poetry, her pioneering collaborations with other Black artists, as well as her later works and her legacy to African American literature and culture.
